WAIRAU LAWN TENNIS CLUB.

The annual general meeting of the above Club was held last evening, Mr B. MeCallum, the Vice-President, in the Chair.

The report and balance-sheet for the past season were read and adopted, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the officers of the Club for the successnl manner in which its affairs had been managed during the past season.

The report was as follows:—"In presenting the report and balance-sheet of the Club for the season 1901-1902, there are.no special features to remark upon. The season was successful in every way, the condition of the courts again reflecting great credit on Messrs F. and 8. Bull, who undertook the care of the same for the season. Financially, also, the year has been satisfactory, the balance-sheet showing a substantial sum to credit. The annual 'tournaments were held as usual, and gave an added interest to the season's tennis, the handicapping being excellent, resulting in many exciting finishes. Miss Wrigley won the ladies' singles, and carries off the prize kindly pre aented by our generous President, and Mr Wilmot, as winner of the men's singles, receives the trophy donated by Mr McCallum, our Vice-President, who baa always taken an interest in the welfare of the Club. The final for the combined doubles has yet to be played. The Club played two matches with the Marlbdrough Club, bdth of which were won by the latter. Members will notice that work at our courts has now been commenced by the Bowling Club, in terms of their agreement with us, under which they undertake to lay down two «cou?te equal to the present ones before requiring us to give them up. We cannot conclude without placing on record our appreciation of the kindness of the lady members of the Club who in torn so pleasurably preside over the afternoon teas." - The election of officers was then proceeded with, the following being placed: —President, Mr S. M. Neville; VicePresidents, Messrs E. McCallum and g. J. Furnesa; Secretary and Treasurer; Mr IX H. Wilmot; Committee, Misses X. Nosworthy, Wrigley, and Amy MWU, Messrs F. Bull* Burden, and B. A. Moore; Auditor, Mr Claude The opening day was fixed for Saturday, October 18th. A deputation from the Tennis Club was appointed to interview the Bowling Club regarding several matters in connection with the ground. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded a very successful meeting. The outlook for the coming year is decidedly promising. '
