In the Supreme Court to-day the criminal case Hillier v. Jacobs,.in which the charge is one of creating a public nuisance by erecting certain buildings on a public road near Greymouth, was heard. After hearing two surveyors' evidence, Justice Denniston directed the jury to find a technical verdict of guilty, and then ordered the buildings to be removed in reasonable time. 'The question of costs was reserved to enable the Judge to consult other Judges.
The civil case Earl v. Government was commenced before a jury. This is a claim of £1500 damages for the loss of the right leg on the .Greymouth wharf twelve months ago by a railway truck, Several witnesses for complainant were examined,. and the farther hearing was adjourned till tomorrow.

The Supreme Court session opened to-day. The criminal calendar includes eight charges, and also three divorce cases to be heard.
