Christohtjroh, September 30. A young man named James Edwards met with a distressing accident to-day.:'/ He was attending to a water-wheel, and was in the act of placing a chain on the driving-wheel, when his coat be* cams entangled in the cogs of the main wheel. His left arm was drawn in, asd he was taken round the shaft several times, eventually being thrown some distance from the wheel, his left arm being torn off and left hanging in the wheel. No one was near, and "he "- walked fully ten chains for assistance. ; Every stitch of clothing was torn from his body. He was conveyed to the hospital, and was doing well at a late hour tonight.
Auckland, September 30.
William Monaghan, a passenger by the train from Auckland to Ellerslie to-night, fell from the train as it was leaving the latter station and broke his arm in two nlaces, and was severely bruised on his side and leg. It is be« lieved that he is also hurt internally.
