MINING CLAIMS PEGGED OUT.

LORD MILNER'S TOUR.

Received September 30, 0.26 a.m. London, September 29.

Thirteen thousand five hundred and seventy-two licenses for claims have been granted at Pietersburg, and 8895 in the Barbertoa districts, early enough to enable the poorest to reach their destination on the 24th. The claims were pegged out at daybreak on the 25th. There was no disorder.

The happiest results are anticipated from Lord Milner's tour in the Western Transvaal. He invited suggestions and discussed plans of settlement with the leading burghers, including General Cronje's son, and J. L. Vandermerer, formerly Mining Commissioner at Johannesburg. They showed themselves eager to promote the prosperity of the country, and expressed general satisfaction with the arrangements for educating Boer children.
