At^ a large and representative meeting last night, tha mayor pre* siding-, it was decided to celebrate the Queen's jubilee for four days, the events including a thanksgiving service. A committee was appointed to arrange a scheme to report to the general committee m a fortnight. It was resolved that any surplus from the celebration should be dovoted to some permanent memorial m the city or district to mark the occasion. Canvassers were appointed to collect subscriptions. Much enthnsiasm was displayed at the meet' ing. The City Council is forwarding a congratulatory address to the Queen. All the local bodies, mem* bers of Parliament, d ictors, clergymen, and other representative men are invited to co- operate with the City Council m making the celebration a success, Ottawa, April 12. Canada wishes to send a regiment to participate m the Queen's jubilee. Officers and men are clamorous to go, and are willing to pay their own expenses, Melbourne, April 13. The acting Premier has received a circular from the lion Mr Chamberlaiu suggesting that uniform action throughout i he colonies would greatly add to the" interest of the jubilee jelobration, but considers climatic conditions alone would reader this impracticable. f lhe City Council has donated £1000 to the Jubilee Infectious Diseases Hospital Fund.
