A CHURCH SCANDAL.
The Congregational Church Council of San Francieco, after a long rambling inquiry extending over weeks of time and columns of print, virtually acquitted the Eev Dr Brown of the charge of adulteTy, but found him " guilty of unministerial conduct and conduct unbecoming a gentleman." The verdict satisfied no one, hot even the accused, but it was sufficiently vagufe m its findings to permit of the reverend gentleman to mount the rostium with an alacrity that bore marked evidence of his sense of the fitness of things. Meanwhile the church — erstwhile one of the wealthiest and largest m the city — is going to fragments. There are rents and schisms and defections and petitions acres wide and miles long. Of the guilt of the parson lew have any reasonable doubt, but the few who have no doubt whatever that he is the most persecuted of men are making the air ring with their shout? of defiance. Altogether a miserable business.
