The House met at 2 30. FINANCIAL DEBATE. Mr G. W. Bussell resumed the debate on the Financial Statement, and speaking as a member of the Liberal Party expressed his extreme disappointment "with the policy enunciated m the Budget. The finances were m an unsatisfactory state, and the outcome would be the floating of a large loar. Mr Morrison strongly defended the Government policy, and referred to the impracticable andhare-brained speech of Mr Kussell. Mr Buicfc sa d that during the last four years the Colony had not paid its way by £95,224, and more retrenchment was required m the public service. The House resumed at 7.30. Captain JUuss^ll contended that the Budget showed the colony was going from bad to worse, especially m its finances, He regretted no attempt had been made to remit the duties on the necessaries of life, and at a future date he would move a resolution on the Tariff, so that the House should have a fair opportunity of discussing the whole question. The Hon. Mr McKer.zie replied to Captain Russell. He said the money borrowed by Government had been usea m the development and settlement of the country, and the action of the Government was justified, Mr Fraser adversely criticised the Budget. Mr Montgomery spoke m praise of the Government policy. The debate was adjourned, and the House rose at 12.10.
