Melbourne, August 9. w At the half-yearly meeting of the Broken Hill Proprietary Mine, Mr Macßride stated he was satisfied that the damage by fire m Block 10 would not; exceed £20,000 ; The directors would not be able to pay the monthly dividends during the coming half-year, but hoped to pay five shillings each. In the action brought against tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, as defendants domiciled m England (which Company had been reconstructed undor the English Joint Stock Companies Act, the plaintiff haying consented to the arrangement) it was held tho English Act could not apply outside Great Britain, and the plea of the English arrangement could not prevail against an action brought m the colony for money deposited m the colony. On law points judgment was given for plaintiff, TaiJKBDAY IBLAND, August 9. News has been received that Wilson, who recently abducted a halfcaste girl, anchored the stolen lugger near Biogue, Now Guinea. Short y after a divers lugger appeared m sight, and Wilson took her to be a Government vessel aftor him. In order to avoid capture he took poison, and died from its effects. Wilson endeavored to induce the girl also to take poison, but she re* fused.
