MILITARY SPORTS AT SPRING CREEK. Judge, C. Ryan, Esq.; Starter, J. H Redwood, Esq. ; Clerk of Scales, F. Redwood, Esq. ; Handicappers, J. B. Green, Eaq. and J. Armstrong, Esq. ; for foot races, W. Houldsworth E*q. and T. O'Leary Esq. ; Tima-keeper, T. O'Laary, Esq. The Mounted Rifles held their annual Military Sporta yesterday, Boxing D»y, m Redwood Bros' paddock at Spring Creek. The attendance waa fair, the uncertainty of the weather m the morning no doubt detaining many people fit home. The sport provided was quite up to the exoellenee of that of the previous occasions, and tba officials showed much energy and capability. The handicapping m the horse racing was fairly successful, considering the judgment required to be exercised when treating troopers' horses. The starting, which was done by Mr J. Armstrong m the place of Mr J. H. Redwood, is particularly worthy of mention, the horses going off each time on even terms. Mr C. Ryan satisfactorily filled the office of judge. The Hibernian Band, under the leadership of Mr Curry, supplied Borne excellent music during the day, and most pleasurablj relieved tht monotony. Maiden Hack Raoe (open)— lst prize, £5 and 5s sweepstake ; second horse to save his stake Distance, three-quarters of a mile. R. Ro3s' 18-Carat . . . . 1 Trooper Morrin' s Kangaroo .. 2 Dick's Direct Veto .. 3 Other starters ware W. Western's Midaf, Baillie's Para, Noil's Pyramis, and H. O'Ledry s Florin. Kangaroo ran away with the lead, but coming towards horse 18 Carat passed to the front and won as he liked. Time lmin 25sec. Un-ssddling Eace — Ist prize, £2 3s; Sad prize, Bridle, presented by Benjamin & Co. Trooper A. O'Leary . . . . 1 Morrin . . . . 2 Western . . . . 3 Other competitors were Fergts Parsons and Ballantyne, Troopers Curtis, Chandler, and Greig. On the other side of the coarse Ballantyne, Chandler, and Greig oollided and came down together, bat got away safely without accident. Handicap Foot Race, 440 yards (open)— lst prize, £2 10j ; 2nd prize, 10s. J. O'Dwyer . . . . 1 J. McConway . . . . 2 J. Parsons . . . . . . 3 Four others started. This race was won very easily m the slow time of 67 seconds. Handicap Troopers' Race — Ist prize, £5 and saddle, presented by D Burns ; 2ni prize, Troop Bridle, presented by A. Hayvrood. At the back of the courss Phyllis threw her rider, Beatson, and ran off. Won by half 'a length, with Streamlet three lengths behind, third. Coat Race — Ist prize, Breastplate, presented by J. W. Allen, and 10a, presented by Miss Direen ; 2nd prize, Pair of Stirrnp Irons, presented by L. Dodson, and Set of Shoes, presented by James Nicholas. Sergts Parsons and Chandler not having fulfilled the conditions divided the prize. Farewell Handioap — Once round. For all beaten horses.
