SYLVIA S UD SALE.
NORDENFELDT SOLD FOR £5600. [united pbess association.] Auckland, January 5. There was a great crowd today at the sale of the Sylvia Park Stud. It is a fine day, and the importance of the occasion attracted a great number. Among those present were Dr Ross from San Francisco, W. R. Wilson, J. Crozier of Melbourne, Mr Day a well-known Sydney vet., J. D. Ormond, Gollan, and Douglas of Napier, Stead, O'Brien, and Butler of Christchurch. The stallions were sold first, Fusilade started at 100 guineas and was knocked down at 175 to W. Kathbone of Hawke's Bay. Nordenfeldt caused a great amount of excitement. There were only three bidders, Dr Ross started at £4000, and the bidding went rapidly up to £5,000, Crozier retired at £5500, and he was knocked down at £5600 to T. T. Day of Sydney. StLeger was sold for 400 guineas to L. D. Nathan, and Hotchkiss was sold for £355 to T. Morrin. After the sale of stallions the brood mares were sold. Amohio brought 30 guineas, Walker being the purchaser ; Atlanta, £62, sold to Goodson ; Atlantis, £40, to Watson of Taranaki ; Bianca, £300, to T. Morrin ; Crinoline, £150, D. O'Brien; Erycina, £230, J. Marshall; Fleurette, £120, J. Marshall; Florence McCarthy, £400, Gollan; Formo, £220, Morrin; Fusee, £100, Dr Ross; Hannah, £7. Duder; Hippona, £100, J. D. Ormond; Happy Land, £170, W. R. Wilson ; Lady Ravenswoith, £35, Duder; Lady Mersey, £65, Goodson of Hawera ; Lelia, £13, J. B. Williamson ; Lovebird, £110, L. D. Nathan ; Orient, £105, Rathbone ; Lyra, £8, Condon ; Lyre, £70, Ormond ; Madcap, £22, Condon ; Maid of Honor, £330, W. R. Wilson. Mersey brought £2300, W. R. Wilson of Melbourne being the purchaser, D. O'Brien went as far as £2200. Miss Laura, £105, Watson; My Idea, £130, Natham ; Naid, £180, Wilson ; Nelly Moore, £270, Wilson. Most of the mares had a foal at foot and Merseys being by Nordenfeldt.
