LAWN TENNIS TOURNAMENT.

In the Championship Singles, J. M. Marshall (Wanganui), beat M. Feldwicke (Napier), 6—3—6—4—lo—B, after a splendid exhibition of tennis. 4?" Championship Doubles— F. Wilding and R. D. Harman (Christchurch), beat E. J. Ross and J. M. Marshall, 6-3—6 3—6—4. Ladies' Single Championship — Miss Rees (Ashburton), beat Mis 3 Gordon (Christchurch), 6— 3-4— 6-6— 5. Ladies' Double Championship— Misses Gordon and Harman (Christchurch), beat Misses M'Kerras and Rattray, 6—2—6—3. Men's Handicap Double 3 were won by Lean and Laurie. Ladies' Handicap Doubles — Misses A. and M. Simpson (Christchurch), 1. Combined Doubles— Misses Black andH. M. Douslin, 1. From the Lyttelton Times' report of the first two days of the Lawn Tennis Championship meeting we take the following particulars : — The lady visitors were Misses I G. Rattray and L. Mackerras of Dunedin, Miss Douslin, who came all the way from Blenheim, and Miss Rees of Ashburton. In the ladie3* matches Miss Rattray, who distinguished herself by accurate play, and made many beautiful back-handed strokes, Boon disposed of Miss Griffith m the Ladies' Championship Singles. Miss Douslin, who played a splendid game, proved more than a matchforMissC.Lean,andMissM. Simpson was unfortunately pitted against her sister, Miss A. Simpson, whom she vanquished, though it must be said that both played true tennis. In the Ladies' Doubles (championship) Miss E. Gordon and Miss E. Harman won a good game m the first round from Miss Douslin and Miss Meeson ; Mrs Loraax- Smith and Miss Worthy beat the Misses A. and M. Simpson, though the latters' playing seemed to many onlookers to be superior ; while the two Dunedin ladie3 (Miss G. Rattray and Miss Mackerras) proved better than their Christchurch opponents, Mrs Alan Scott and Miss E. Rhodes. ■ Of the second day's play, it says: — Dr Withers and Andrews may be mentioned as perhaps the best of yesterday's players m ■ the Men's Handicap Singles. Fuller and Sutcliffe had a very good game with Douslin and Gavin m the Handicap Doubles, and should be very close m the finals. The Misses Simpson against Mrs Humphreys and Miss Hoare played well- contested games m the Ladies' Handicap Doubles, as also did Mrs Scott and Miss Rhodes against Mrs ___ Henderson and Miss Douslin. In the Combined Doubles, mention may be made of Miss Simpson and T. Sutcliffe and Miss Black and H. Douslin as showing good form. In the second round of the Ladies Championship Singles. — Miss Gordon (bye) beat Miss Meeson (bye), 6-5, 6-3. Miss G. Rattray beat MissM. Simpson, 6-5, 6-3. Miss E. Harman beat Miss Douslin, 6-5, 6-4. In the second round of the Mens Handicap Doubles. — Douslin and Gavin (scr) beat Bristed and Andrews (receive 15 and J-15(, 6-3, 7-5, but m the third round Fuller and Sutcliffe (receive £-15) beat Douslin and Gavin (scr), 6-3, 7-5. In the Combined Handicap Doubles Miss Douslin and C. D. Kennedy (owe j-15) beat Mrs Humphreys andF. Corbett (receive 30), 6-2, 6-1 ; and m the same round Miss E. Black and H. Douslin (receive 15) beat Miss C. Lean and J. Wolferstan (scr), 6 0, 2-6, 7-5. In the third round Black and H. Douslin (receive 15) beat Miss Meeson and W. A. Ridings (sor), 6 4, 2-6, 8-6. The final was placed between Miss Douslin and Kennedy, and Miss Black and Douslin, the latter winning by 6-4 to 6 3, for which Mr Horace Douslin brings home a two guinea cup. Mr and Miss Douslin returned last night, and report that the weather prevented anything like an enjoyable time being spent.
