+■ ENGLAND'S ULTIMATUM. A FRENCH FISHING BOAT FIRED UPON. (united press association.) London, July 14. ! Lord Salisbury has informed Mr Blame, Secretary of State for the United States, that if America deals summarily : with British sealers m Behring Sea, Great Britain will protect what she claims to be a common highway. July 21. After a strong protest made by the Marquis of Salisbury m May last, Mr J. G. Blame, United States Secretary of State, has reversed the policy pursued with regard to the Behring Sea two years ago. Friction has arisen between Mr Blame and the President over the Behring dispute, and it is probable the former will resign office. Sx. Johns, July 16. The Newfoundland gunboat Fiona fired on a French fishing boat which was violating bait regulations. The fishing boat managed to escape without sustaining any damage. The French' warship Mignon, and H.M.S. Conius are investigating the matter. Paris, July 18. There is some agitation m France on account of the Fiona affair.
