THOS. ' SPURGEON. _ » _ [UNITED PBESS.ASBOOTATION.] Dunedin, December 12. At to-day's sitting of the Baptist Conference the Committee appointed to see the Sev. Spurgeon, relative to his continuance m the colony, reported that Mr Spurgeon was quite willing to consider any proposal m that direction. The following resolution was carried : — This Assembly believing m the eminent fitness of Mr Spurgeon for the work of an evangelist, and the great service he by visiting our churches for special services would render them and the cause of Christ at large, authorise the committee to enter into an engagement with him to this end, and to open a guarantee fund to ensure honorable maintenance while engaged m the service of the Union. A sub-commit-tee was appointed to give effect to Jhis resolution, and m the event of its being carried out the churches receiving his aid must take reasonable steps for meeting the expenses of the mission. i ■ ■
