Mahakipawa Diggings.— The Venture Claim got 87 ounceß out of a pot. hole on Tuesday the 10th insfc. The Wairarapa so, far this week got 770 ounces,, and Lyford and patty 53 ounces. Several other claims have had big finds, and this week's yield will far more than double any previous weeks- return; . The gold buyer was telegraphed for to-day.—Have-lock"Correspondent./ ... : \ .." Christmas Exhibition _ and Fete.— Preparations for the opening at 3 o'clock are going on apace m the Drill Shed, and we can assure our readers that they will this evening behold such a collection as it rarely falls to the lot of young colonists to Bee. Conspicuous among the exhibits are the splendid photos and engravings sent . by the Bishop of Nelson. Of these the finest are the photo-gravures, taken from terra-cotta models. They are simply peerless. And a number of exhibits are shown by residents who have inherited from their ancestors curios, heirlooms, &o. For example, Eev. Ti S. Grace shows a Sikh saddle, adorned heavily with Indian gold. Dr Muller shows a plaster model of S. Augustine's chair m Canterbury Cathedral; a 'conveyance' of the time of Henry VIII., which' curiously shews how little legal documentary work has advanced; a snuff box of Queen Anne's time, and other interesting relics too ' numerous to particularise. Mr Kingsley (Secretary to the Bishop) exhibits a really splendid collection m the natural history and geological departments, conspicuous among them being a huge butterfly caught m Nelson, . These, however, are but the fore runners of a numerous collection, and we feel sure the exhibition will be eagerly visited to-night. Mrs Draper has undertaken the management of the Kefreshment Stall, and that is a sufficient guarantee of excellence. The barque " Novelty" is now fully .rigged, and her standing rigging is bright and black. Among the attractions is a Maypole dance by little girls. ■•".•".
