POLITICAL GOSSIP.

(from our own correspondent.) Wellington, Oct. 27. There is absolutely nothing stirring, the last two or three days having been a time of political stagnation. Bumors have been plentiful, but aftor living a few hours have generally been contradicted. It is impossible to obtain anything authoritatively. The rumor as to the intention of the Government to propose further borrowing has been m daily circulation sinoe I mentioned it, but the New Zealand Times this morning discredits the rumor. The general opinion, however, is that Government will propose a small loan this year. Another rumor, to the effect that the Government will on Friday make a statement with reference to the Midland Bailway contract, is also denied, though it is certain some statement on tho subject must bo mado at an early date. The disputed oleotion cases, East Coast Maori, and Waitotara, are now the topic of general conversation m the lobbies, but no further information is obtainable than that supplied through tho ordinary channel.
