MAGISTRATES AND THEIR DUTIES,
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Aookmnd, Deo. 10. An important point has been decided m the Supreme Court Sittings m Banoo, m the case of May v. Glendon and others, which was au applioation for a prohibition against the defendants, who had disregarded a regulation gazetted under the Resident Magistrate's Act. Mr Jackson Palmer contended the regulations were mandatory to Magistrates, and Mr Theo. Gooper contended that they were directory. Judge Ward said he was sorry to have to decide that, if Magistrates disregarded rales, they did not subject themselves to a writ of prohibition.
