The Committee of Representatives of the Sailors' Home, which ceased to exist m 187 S. was appointed to-day to confer with tho Wo ir en's Christian Association, who are trying to start a Sailors' Rest, to ascertain whether the two movements could be combined. A balance of £370 remains m hand from the old home, which had not proved self-supporting. Auckland, July 8. In the Supreme Court this morning, John Ryau, for stabbiug Georpe Lawlor at Opotiki, received six months' imprisonment ; and Arthur Morton, for passing valueless cheques, nine mouths' imprisonment.
