COUNTY OF WAIRAU.
Wairau Valley District.
Os Thursday a meeting was held at the School House, Wairau Valley, for the Wairau Valley district. Mr James White was the Returning Officer, and about 15 or 16 persons were present. Mr Ockley proposed Mr William Adams, of Langley Dale, as a member for the district, who was seconded by Mr W. Bell.
Mr Buckmas proposed Mr George Watson as a member, who was seconded by Mr H. Bonnington.
The proceedings then terminated. We understand that Mr Watson is not qualified, therefore his election is invalid.
A meeting of the ratepayers for the District of Waihopai was held at the School House, Renwick Town, for the election of two members of the new Board for the County of Wairau. Mr C. Griffiths, as Returning Officer, presided. But very few persons attended. Cyrus Coulter, Esq., and G. H. Monro, Esq., being the only persons nominated, were declared duly elected. Mr Goulter briefly addressed those present. He said he thought it very desirable that Mr Joseph Ward, the late Chairman of the old Beard, should be a member of the new one, but as that gentleman was at present absent m Wellington, he (Mr Goulter) was willing to act as a member until Mr Ward's return, when he should resign m his favor.
