Blenheim Borough Council.

An Adjourned Meeting of the Council -was held on Tuesday evening last, when were present his Worship the Mayor, Crs Robinson, Hutcheson, Taylor, M ‘Lauchlan, Farmar, and Nos worthy, Public Pound. —A letter was read from the Provincial Secretary, stating that it was the intention of the Government to remove the Public Pound to a site outside the Borough, and suggesting that the Mayor should proclaim the present Pound for the Borough. Cr Robinson said that he thought they could not do better for the present than appoint the present Pound, but it was in a very bad state and full of mud. It would require metalling and putting into a fit state before they could take it.—Cr Hutcheson said he had heard that another person was about to make an application where the site would be drier, but as he had not done so, perhaps it would be as well to have the present one for a while at least. The Mayor thought the best way would bo to authorise him to proclaim the present Pound ; the Town Clerk could arrange with the owner to make the necessary and suitable alterations and repairs.—Cr Robinson moved, and Cr Hutcheson seconded, a motion to that effect.

The, Valuation. —Cr Nosworthy handed in the report of the Special Committee on the valuation prepared by Mr. Gorrie. They had given it every attention, and believed the amendments would meet with the approbation of most of the ratepayers in the town. He moved that it be received and laid on the table which was carried.

Street Repairs. —Cr Robinson moved that the specifications be prepared for the repairs of the street at the east end of N. Edwards and Go’s store, and also recommended that a few loads of gravel should be put down in Wynen-street. — Or Hutcheson seconded the motion. Carried.

Education Funds The Mayor reported that £64 had been paid over by the Government for the Education Board, in addition to which about £4O had been received from rates, making a sum of .£IOO available.

Boulderhanh Gravel. —The Mayor informed the Council that the Town Clerk had not called for tenders for the works in Maxwell-road in compliance with the wish of several members, as it was felt that the gravel now being used for roadwork was of very little use. They felt that while they continued to use it they would never have good and solid roads. It was suggested that a very hard gravel of even size and clean, might be procured from the Boulderbank. and he thought it would be well to appoint a committee to enquire into the matter and the probable cost, and in the meantime defer the calling of tenders until it reported.—Cr Robinson moved that the Committee consist of the Mayor, with Crs Hutcheson, Farmar, and Noswortby, for the purpose of enquiring into this matter, and if necessary, to employ some person to go down and examine it, with a view to reporting at the next meeting.—Cr. Hutcheson in seconding, said there were great complaints of the sort of gravel

now being used on Grove Road. —The Mayer said that possibly the main road only would require the harder and more expensive gravel, while the by-roads would do with the ordinary metal. The Council then adjourned.
