The annual meeting of the Waikaka branch of the .Southland War Funds Association was held in the hall oh Saturday,- 14th inst. There wree not many present owing to the death ol I'rivate' Duncan. Blaikie. A vote of sympathy to Mr and Mrs J. Blaikie and family was carried in silence, all present standing., The meeting de; eided, out of respect for the deceased soldier, to adjourn until Saturday evening, 21st inst. • .'■ ■ The 'report and balance-sheet as follows were. adopted:—During the year 50 members enrolled, and the committee hopes to increase this number for the ensuing year. The, branch has justified its existence. Cases have been brought before the executive, with the result that assistance has,been granted to those deserving-it. During the year the-sum of £292 6s 3d (including merhbership'.'fees) "has been gathered in the district and forwarded to Invercargill, besides £6 16s raised for the Sailors' Dependents' Relief Fund. The committee wishes to place on record the valuable assistance rendered by the local branch of the Countess of Liverpool League, Wallace Party, and those who subscribed to the various, fund's.
