Refreshments were dispensed by.the ladies, _ bring a very enjoyable evening to a close. A meeting <: f the Brydone Progrcn- i sivo Society wa.- held on Saiurdav nip-lit, Mr G. Ste "art presiding. Mr .J. Drysdale read a letter from the Minister for Railways refusing to grant a goods shed. It was- decided to a<*ain approach the Minister and to put forth ail the requirements of the district and what good purpr«es would be served I y erecting the shed. , , , The annual bachelors' ball took place in the hall last Wednesday niffht. The ladies did-not attend so well as on former occasions, but the dance war, exceedingly enjoyable and tho bachelors arc to be congratulated! on the excellent arrangements made for the evening's amusement. Refreshments, cool drinks fruit and excellent music by Mr and Mrs Sutherland left nothing to be desired. Messrs W. Cooney and Jardme n-cre efficient M.C.'s. Extras were played' by Mr .Tack Archibald on 'the oip'es. Mr L. Cooney, on behalf of the benedicts, thanked the bachelors' for the pxcellpnt evening's entertainment. Mr George Jardine suitably responded. It lir.s been sug?:e«ted that a graceful compliment to the bachelor;-, would- be a return ball by tho benedicts. Among those present I noticed Mrs L. Cooney in a handsome, dress of cerulean blue shot silk, relieved with Oriental cmbroidery; Mrs G. Williams, vieux de rose silk dress arranged with a darker shade of silk velvet and Oriental ornaments : Mrs X. Marshall, pretty oate blue silk dress; Mrs Tunihull, pretty black grenadine dress; Countess \on - Rome, black velvet robe relieved w'itli 1 lace : 'Misses K. Cooney. light invy silk ; N. Dak v. cream-, silk; M. Dalev, cbari mouse silk; Mc.Leod, cream «Ik; Bai- • clay, light blue silk with cream chiffon overdress; ,J.
