BOWLING. MA.TAURA CLUB'S REPORT. Tho annual meeting of member;; of the Mataura Rowling Club will take' place in the Coronation Hall on Tuesday, Titly 7, 'when the following' report will be submitted: In submitting the annual report and balance-sheet, tho committee congratulates the club on its excellent finaneia'l ixisition, there being a-credit balance of £l4 19s sd.- - MATCH PLAY. During the last season the club entered for the four-rink championship matches, playing two games with each or the. other clubs in the district, winning two. and: losing four. ' Other outside matches were also played. On Labor Day two teams, one from the Southland Club and one from the Invereargill Club, visited Mataura, and the chub also sent two rinks to inver-t-argil! to play in th(% inter-club match, in all of which the f Mataura players were victorious. The Mataura Executive played a friendly game against the Gore executive, Mataura being the winners: The Hamilton Cun matches were also played 'and the club's rink was runner-up, being defeated in the final ihy one point- only. Representatives from the club also played in the lnveroargill and the Easter Tout laments but achieved no success. The weather throughout, the year was very favorable and as a result ihe club's coinpetitions were got off successfully arid expeditiously. The following i 3 a list of the winners:—Championship bingles: W. B. Scott. Handicap Singles: J. Broome. ; Colts' Singles: J. Broome. Championship) Rinks: ,T. Rothwell, M. O'Brien, J. Calder, and Dr. Shore. Handicap Doubles: W. Stewart and Dr Shore. Progressive Doubles: J. Calder and W. P. Thorn.' I

THANKS. ■ The committee expresses its thanks to the following who. donated prizes: Soe'al Committee, .-Messrs J. Calder, J. Rothwell, A. Dickie, (who donated his bowls to the club), and to Mr J, Hamilton- for his assistance in effecting repairs to the puni'p. The. green-Jms been kept in excellent condition by the caretaker (Mr W. B. tfeid) awl its condition during tho wet weather of the. Easter-Tournament won unstinted praise from the visitors. During the year improvements were made tp the green by the ditches being asphalted. The secretary ivae provided w th a locker and a new gate was erected. The work of the. Social Committee was carried out in an excellent manner and in this connection the thanks of the club are due to Mrs Easton and Mrs J. Aitken, these ladies superintending the tables on every occasion. GENERAL. ' During the) year a. ladies' afternoon was held on the occasion of Mr.J. C. Evison's farewell.' The club lost a valuable member in Mr Evison, who was a former member of the executive and also treasurer of the club. The membership of the club now stands at 41, not including life members. RECOMMENDATIONS. The committee advises the adoption ot the following recommendations: —(1) That a new tank be procured before next season, as the present one is beyond repair. (2) That the incoming committee to take steps to poison the worms on the green two weeks before next season opens.' (3) That £l2 of the balance be .placed on deposit in the n.anie of the trustees as a nucleus of a Building Fund. (4) That the club docs not enter for tha four-rink championship during the forthcoming season, as it does ndl give all the mem,liens a. chance of playing in the matches, and makes the duty of the* selector somewhat difficult. (5) That the -financial year should end oil June- 30, as at present there is too long a space between the end of the financial year and the general 'meeting. In conclusion, the committee thanks the members of the club for their loyalty and support during the past season. *
