I)r Yoronoff explained to the I'Vendi Academy of Medicine the grafting of a monkey's thyroid gland on to a girl aged 14 who was cured of cretinism. The name thyroid is 'applied to one of the cartilages of the larynx, so called from its figure, to a gland situated tiear it, and to the arteries and veins of the gkuid. Cretinism is a condition oil' endemic of inherited idiocy, accompanied by physical degeneracy and deformity (usually with goitre), frequent in certain mountain valleys, especially of the Alps.
