Mr Charles Neil (ex-Labor Commit sicner), addressing the National Council for Industrial Safety, said that if the railroad directors of the United States were compelled to spend 48 hours following the victims of railway accidents to the grave, they would soon take the humanitarian viewpoint of railroad wrecks. Mr Neil explained that the United States' unenviable record for railway accidents was due to the system whereby officials were encouraged to compete in reducing the cost of operating the railways with the consequent deterioration of equipment.
