"DIAMOND QUEEN."
Despatches from Los Angeles, California, give enthusiastic descriptions of the dresses worn by Mrs Clara Baldwin Stocker, wdio inherited £3,000,000 from her father. "Lucky Baldwin." At the Grand Opera House, says one account, the heiress earned the title of the "Diamond Queen" bv appearing "gowned in a gorgeous decollete dress decorated with gems valued at £72,700. The gown was made of flashing gold net over golden satin, and was split up on one side to reveal diamond-stud-ded stockings. With .her diamondstudded shoes and her sparkling diamond crown Mrs Stocker seemed to have stepped from a fairy book."
