FOOTBALL.
THE COST IN WELLINGTON. FEB HSl'liSD PRESS ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON, March 17. At the annual meeting of the Rugby Union last night the president (Dr Newman) brought under the notice of the meeting the state of the union's finances. The treasurer reported that a crisis had arrived in the history of the union. The position was due to the fact that the union was obliged to pay through the nose for playing areas for lower-grade matches. In his opinion the cost of football would have to be raised. The receipts must be increased. The profit on Athletic Park last year was £1155. That had to be used to pay rentals for other grounds. The matter was left in the hands of the incoming committee.
