THE RESULTS AT INVERCARGILL.

When the results were announced at ' Invercargill Messrs Hanan and Fleming briefly addressed the people. Mr Hanan, who was received with cheers, said that he had to return grateful thanks to the electors for having for the fiftii time returned him as their representative. He appreciated their verdict of renewed confidence in him and he feelings of goodwill which the vote had manifested as being held for him. The result could he acclaimed as a triumph for progressive Liberalism for work well done and for clean political fighting. (Applause.) He would continue to advocate radical principles, and would strive to work in the interests of the constituency and of the country. To the members of his committees he conveyed his sincerest thanks. He was glad to think that the people of Invcreargill recognised that ho had acted in their interests to the best of his ability, and that his private life had been a clean one. (Loud applause.) Ho was pleased also that the Liberal flag still waved over Invercartrill, the emblem of all that represented the welfare of the people. Labor would find him true to the principles of progressiveness. Ho would always support measures that made for the welfare of all classes. Mr Fleming had put up a good, clean fight, and he would call for three hearty cheers For Mr Fleming. These were heartily given and Mr Hanan was carried

shoulder high to liis committee rooms ainid cheers.

Mr Fleming was greeted with applause. He thanked the electors who had worked so hard to secure his return, and ho also thanked heartily those who had voted against him. The electors had evidently considered that he would be better employed at home manufacturing pure Snowflake flour and Thistle oatmeal for tho people of Invercargill. He was quite satisfied with tho result of tho poll, and he would accept the decision with a thor. oughly good spirit. He had fought the fight, and ho had not the slightest feeling against his opponent—all honor to him. Mr Fleming then called for three cheers for Mr Hanan, which were lustily given, and a further salvo for the returning officer.
