The following is the High Commissioner's report on the colonial wool sales :—The wool sales commenced with a large attendance of buyers, American buyers coming forward. There is great competition both for Home and the Continent and prospects are favorable ; Ji2,()(!() bales ot New Zealand wool are catalogued. Prices are fully equal to the closing rates of last sale. The market is firm with an upward tendency. The estimated values of Xew Zealand wools at the close of the fifth series of colonial wool sales in London, held on October 10, 1911, were as follows:—Superior merino, 11 Jd to Is Id; medium merino, 9}d to lid; inferior merino, 7}d to 9d; fine crossbreds, all grades, lid to Is Id; medium crossbreds, all grades, 8d to 10;Jd; coarse crossbreds, all grades, 7d to lOd.
