The Riversdale Defence Rifle Club fired the first match of the second competition on Wednesday under unfavorable weather conditions, there being a very strong right wind blowing; but nevertheless some good scores for the day were put up as follows : 500 600 yds. yds. The winner turned up in Rifleman McKenzie with the fine score of 95 out of a possible 1.00, and lie takes President Shanks' trophy for the highest score in the first stage. The Australian Northern Union team defeated Swinton by five goals and six tries to three goals and one try. CRICKET. WYNDHAM BEATS EDEN DALE. The Wyndlmm and Edendale teams met for the first time this season in an Eastern District Cup match at Edendale on Wednesday, the result being an easy victory for Wyndham by 210 runs. Edendale has just entered senior ranks but the team's showing in this match does not reveal its form. Batting first, Edendale- could only muster up a total of 13 runs. Carlow getting on the spot right at the start and bagging seven wickets for 3 runs, Raymond getting the remaining three for 10 runs. Wyndham compiled 223 i runs, Maguire knocking up 105 (re-1 tired), Dr Baird (39), Murphy (20) and I Hunter (15) being the other double-1 figure scorers. Following are the I scores:—
