HON. R. H. J. REEVES. PER UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION. NELSON, June 1. The Hon. R. H. J. Reeves, M.L.C. (Chairman of Committees of the Upper House), died at 9.5 this morning, after a short illness and a heart attack. He had been ailing off and on for some time. The Hon. Richard Harman Jeffares Reeves was born at Enniscorthy, Wexford, in 1836. He was educated at the Grammar School, Barrow, and Tarvin, Cheshire. He went to sea in 1852 and joined the rush to the Australian goldfieds, later proceeding to the West Coast. He was elected during his absence to represent Hokitika in the Canterbury Provincial Council, from which he subsequently resigned. In 1878-81 he represented Grey Valley in the House of Representatives and in ISB7-92 Inangahua. In 1895 he was appointed to the Legislative Council and was re-appointed in 1902. He was a consistent < Liberal and was for some years chairman of committees.
