VANDALISM.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —As our vicar (Rev. A. Wingfield) has a lot on his shoulders at present may I ask you to publish the following regarding "Vandalism" in the Anglican church grounds. There seems to be a great storm in a very little eggcup. Firstly, the Anglican church grounds belong to the Anglicans. The parishioners have just lately elected •• vestry to conduct the business of the church. Now, the vestry must think the parishioners have very little confidence in them. To read "Anglican's'' remarks you would conclude they had not. For one thing, the vicar is there to lead and advise his parishioners. Now, to return to the trees. I might inform "Anglican" that had the Rev. T. L. Stanley been in the Rev. Mr Wingfield's shoes and concluded some of the trees wanted removing to benefit others he would have had them removed in spite of "Anglican" or any other parishioners had they been 50 years in the parish. Then our lamented friend and fellow-parishioner, Mr M. R. Bree, was far too good an arboriculturist to let one plant remain to spoil or destroy another. It is a pity there are not more of his stamp as regards the love of Nature. If he had been amongst us with all his faculties some one would have got the hint to get a few branches lopped off the few remaining trees planted in our streets. By judicious pruning or lopping they would not interfere with anybody's view and would add to the health of our town. They "•'mid be so dressed as not to interfere 11 electric wires. TO Tll£ EDITOE. Sir,—Allow mo, through yout vainable paper, to express my desire to tako exception to the explanation which Councillor Christie gave to the Council at the last meeting, which seemed to 'e quite satisfactory to the members. 1, as one of the retired members of the band, would like to see a little fair playAs regards Mr Christie saying hi could not allow "one or two" to rum the show, I would like to know who be is referring to. Judging by his statement he naturally makes the public think that we were all kicked out, which I must, out of justice to myself and other retired members, say is entirely wrong. Now, for instance, after my resignation had been read at the last annual meeting Mi Christie (as president asked me twice if he could propose me as a new member of the band, which I certainly refused under the present state of affairs. I can quite agree with "Ex and Would-be Bandsman's" letter as regards there being cause for investigation. I hope this letter will help to bring out some of the real facts as regards the present state of affairs.—l am, etc., R. HICKS, Ex-Committeeman GLB.B. May 18, 1910.
