SKATING RINK. There was a largo attendance at the skating rink last evening, the popularity of this pastime showing no diminution in public favor. ]t is the intention of the management to put on a masquerade carnival at an early | date, the prizes for which are now on J exhibition in the window of Mr YV. j Baker, jeweller, Main street. Awards; will be made to the most graceful lady skater, the most graceful couple, the most original costume, etc. The management wish it to be known that none of the assistants will compete, and the public will be th? judges by medium of the ballot box. YVENDONSIDE LITERARY SOCIETY. The Wendonside Musical and Literary Society held the opening meeting on thelSth inst., with a membership of 31. Mr R. McKay occupied the chair, and a syllabus of work for the session was submitted and approved. A number of extempore speeches chosen by lot made up an interesting programme. Mr E. A large audience witnessed Stevenson's Pictures in the Dominion Hall on Thursday evening, when a capital programme of new films was submitted. The pictures were admirably shown and elicited the warm approval of those liresent. One of the. best was. a capital .series showing the daily pilgrimage +o Lourdes, which is visited annually bv some 300,000 pilgrims and invalids, and affording some fine panoramas of the magnificent church there and the town and surroundings. "Winter scenes in Denmark" was another interesting picture, showing the people indulging in various winter sports, while "Scenes n Sydney" gave an excellent idea of the daily life and bustle in the capital of New South Wales. A film of unusual interest was that depicting liie and customs in Transylvania, a picturesque part of the Hungarian kingdom, are! the importance attaching to "A Wedding in Sumatra" was also indicated. They marry young in Sumatra. Several delightful animal studies were shown, one of the best being "Pals," depicting the friendship between a playful Persian kitten and a parrot. Other films of more than passing interest were "The Western Maid," a sketch of the wild west in which a magnificent display < I horsemanship was given; and "'The Honor of His Family," a story of pride and the American Civil War. Variety was lent to the programme by sever d humorous and dramatic films. Mr latidlaw provided the necessary accompanying music.
