Lord Tennyson (an ex-Govcriior-Geu-eral of the Commonwealth), who presided, referred to Mr MacKenual as tho pioneer of a noble individual Australian art yet to arise which would be the glory of the Commonwealth and leinvigorato British art. Mr MacKenual, in reply, said tho mystery of tho Australian bush and its vast silences and distances would somo day inspire a groat art effort. Tho establishment of the Federal capital would afford an opportunity to create a monument to federation proving this generation's, full belief in tho greatness of tho nation yet to come.
