The Hegistrar-Crcneral has issued n preliminary return (subject to revision) showing the population of the North, South and Stewart Islands and adjacent islets, and increases made in the lust 20 years. The figures arc as follow North Island.—lSßG, 250,152 ; 18%, 310,631 ; 1901, 390,571 ; 1006, 176,891. South Island.—lßß6, 327,393; 1896, 362,230 ; 1901, 351,G61 ; 1906, 111,238. Stewart Island.—lSSTi, 200 ; IS<J|6, 252 ; 1901, 272 ; 1906, 288. A table showing the numerical increases mado gives the following results North Island.—l9B6-91, 30,963; 1891-96, 59,176; 1596-01, 49,910: 1901-06, 56.320.
