KELSO JOTTINGS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The great social event of the district, the Xorth (ilcnkcnirh picniu came oft on Friday last. The weather in the forenoon was threatening in the extreme, but old Sol, just to please the good people of Ulenkcuich. shone out in the afternoon with all his wonted brilliancy. A very large number of settlers of the district with their wives and families attended the gathering. Mr William Grainger wus indefatigable in getting ofT the various sports, while Messrs Steele ami Crossan attended to the hundred and one other little duties incidental to the carrying out successfully of a picnic. The cakes' (all home-made), scones, etc.. were simply perfection, and reflected the greatest credit on the young ladies of the district. At night the usual dance came off. and was well attended and much enjoyed. Following is a list of the race competitions :—Young Ladies' Race —Miss Kirk ]. Miss Thompson 2. I am sure I express the sentiments of all the people of this district when I saw we feel the deepest sorrow at the sad news of the death of Mrs Alexander Mclntyre. The deceased lady had been ailing for some considerable time, and it was considered expedient to perform an operation in Dunedin. Unfortunately, however, she only lived a few days afterwards. She was a king neighbor, a good mother, and an affectionate and loving wife.
