BUILDING FUND CONCERT. A concert in aid of the Balfour Catholic Church building fund was held in the Public Hull last evening, and although the weather was by no means favorable for the occasion there was a crowded house, largo numbers from Waikaia, Biversdale and Lumsden helping to swell the throng. The Bev. Father Keenan (assisted by Mr M. Shea), who presided over the gathering, welcomed those present and intimated that as a result a substantial amount should be placed to the credit of ~the building fund. A capital programme was presented, its excellence being manifested by tl.e large number of encores. After a spirited overture by Misses Sniaill and Brown (piano and violin), enjoyable vocal numbers were contributed by Misses Dunne, Macpherson, Brown and Smaill; Messrs vDawkins, Moloney, Joyce, Sniaill and E. Delarg-ev. Sir Eatlio gave several humorous recitations, and Mr R. Butel supplied lirstclass gramaphone selections. At the conclusion of the entertainment Father Keenan thanked the performers and the audience for the support given to the object in view. Refreshments were then dispensed, and afterwards a largely attended dance was held. The Hunter family supplied the music and Mr D. Ross acted as M.C. Tlie proceedings throughout the evening were most harmonious, and the fact that capable assistance was wuderwl towards the _ by mouthers of other denominations indicates tTie cordial and friendly mutual telatioris existing in tie district in regard to religious matters.
