CLINTON CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

ANNUAL GAMES. m** The Clinton Caledonian Society as usual V its sports at Clinton on New Year's Day. TThe weather in the forenoon was not very promising but for all that there was a large attendance from all parts, and the fact that the gate money went within £2 of tbe highest ever recorded, must be gratifying to the society. The events on the whole were well contested. In the racing Borne close finishes were witnessed, while the wrestling also produced some interesting work. Much cred iis due to the officials for iho way in which tbey got off the events. Starting an hour late, so well did things keep going that the last event was got off shortly after five o'clock. Mr J. Findlayson, as secretary, also proved himself a worthy successor to Mr A. McDonald, and the Press are indebted to him for tbe courteous way in which he received them and supplied tbem with results. Excellent bagpipe music wae supplied at intervals by Mr Voight, while Mr Mcintosh ran the refreshment booth. The following is the prize-list: Bagpipe music—C. Belsbam 1, J. Cameron 2, W. Nelson 3. The Caledonian concert and dance in the evening brought out a record attendance. At the concert part the hall was packed to the doors, while the crush at the dance detracted considerably from the enjoyment. I understand £3l was taken at the concert, and £8 at the dance. As usual the Society provided a good programme, mostly by paid singers from Dunedin.—Own correspondent.
