An Explanation.
' Who made this inkblot on the copybook?' demanded the ruistcr of the English school in Jamaica. For some time no one answered; but when tho question was repeated, one little boy timidly explained : ' Please, sir, it's not a blot; it's a tear.' ' Tear! What nonsense! llow could a tear be black ?' cried the astonished schoolmaster. ' Praps one of the nigger boys dropped it, sir,' suggested the bright boy.
