BEHIND THE SCENES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Though Prohibition is not brought to the front by either of our Mataura candidates, there is little use iv shuttiug our eyes to the fact that it is being hawked for all it is worth in support of Mr McNab, and learning that a couple of Gore Prohibition pavtisans are following Mr Richardson round the country ou a private canvass in favor of his opponent, I will be glad if you will allow me to suggest that electors who may be pressed by such parties should carefully note the words and expressions used, and if libellous report them to any of Mr Richardson's Committee. This district had plenty of the slush bucket aud tar brush at last election, and as the same artists have apparently begun again, they may be none the worse of a caution. — I j am, etc., | Charlton Flat, i
