Band of Hope Concert.

This annual event took plnce in the Town Hull last evening, when there was a very large attendance. Mr J. A. Forbes presided, in the absence of Mr McNab (who was unable to be present until later on in the evening, and apologised for his inability to be present at an earlier stage). The musical part of the programme was of a very high order, and the various performers — most of whom wero members of the Band of Hope— were heard to advautage. The following items were contributed : — Pianoforte duet, Mrs Brett and Miss MacGibbon ; solos, Mrs Wallace (" Kiugdom of Heaven"), Miss M. Henerv (" A Boy's Best Friend"), Miss J. Pollock ("The Soldier's Tear "), Mrs Brett ("The Valley by the Sea "), Miss Lakeman (" The Old Cathedral "), Mr il. Day (" The Old British Game ") ; duets, Misses E. and B. Lakeman (" A Wish for the Mountains"), Misses Henery and A. Calder (" Juauita ") ; violin solo, Mr B. A. DeLautour (eucored) ; recitations, Miss May Palmer (" The Year that is to Come "), Miss Victoria Cook (" Good Time Coming "), Mr H. Copeland ("Lost"), Mr W. Boyd ("A Woman of Mind") ; concerted recitation, by 10 Band of Hope boys; quartette ("Ye Banks and Braes"), Misses Wilson, Pollock, Calder, and Laurie. In addition to the above, four action songs were rendered in faultless style by 16 girls, and their efforts were much appreciated by the audience. These four items were certainly a feature of the programme, and great credit is due to Miss Brunton for bringing the singers to such a degree of perfection. The accompaniments to the various contributions were played by Miss Calder iwbo also accompanied in most of the part singing), Mrs and Mil _ Brett. A dialogue, entitled " A Regular Tartar," given by members of the Charlton Temperance Society, was a most agreeable number, and created a good deal of merriment, at the same time serving to send the audience home in thorough good humor. The characters were represented as follows : — Misses Edith Allott (principal) and Campbell, Messrs E. Allott, Evison (2), P. Keir and D. Campbell. On the motion of Miss Ethel Lakeman (secretary) aud Miss Niehol, a hearty vote of thanks was tendered to Miss Brunton, Mr McNab, the Charlton Society, aud all others who had assisted, and the most successful concert yet held in connection with tho Gore Baud of Hope was brought to a close by the singing of " Strike Out the Top Line " by four girls, the audience joining in the refrain.
