The Gore Bridge.
. * COUNCILLOR McQUEEN INDIGNANT. ■ At the County Council meeting yesterday ■ the Chairman (Mr Hast), moved, seconded , by Mr Councillor Green, that the whole of r the County's share of the expenditure in / connection with the construction of the Gore bridge, which amounted to about £870, be * paid by the Matnura viding. An amendment was moved by Council- - lor Raymond, seconded pro forma by Councillor McQueen, that the Mataura riding be called upon to contribute two-thirds of the cost and Hokonui one-third. J A discussion took place between the Chair- ; man and Councillors McQueen and Raymond, and, ou the amendment being put, it was lost, the voting being as follows : — For : j Councillors McQueen, McCallum, Raymond ' and Ward ; against : Councillors Green, ' Fraser aud Hamilton. The Chairman exercised '■ his deliberative and casting votes agaiust the ■ amendment. The motion was then put and carried by . five to four, the Chairman again exercising J his privilege to the fullest extent. 1 At this point Councillor McQueen hastily - retired from the room, remarking warmly " that the thing was disgraceful and a gross imposition. Subsequently Councillor McQueen c gave notice to move at next meeting that the i resolution be revoked.
