HEDGEHOPE.

The bachelors ball, which was held in the schoolroom on the 22nd, was attended by visitors from Croydon,'Winton, Dacre and surrounding districts. Great praise is due to the young men for the manner in which they conducted the affair. Messrs Gorman and Mclntosh acted as M.C.'s, and Messrs Hunt, Drake, Sutherland, Mclntosh and Patrick Burke contributed songs, while Messrs Donald and Caufield danced seme excellent jigs and hornpipes. Dancing was indulged in until daybreak. The musical part of the programme was in the capable hands of Messrs Adam Macdonald, Hunt, Halliday and Andrews. Mr McNab met the electors of this locality in the schoolrooru last week, and was accorded a patient hearing. A fairly large number of ladies put in an appearance. On the motion of Mr A. McDonald, a vote of confidence was accorded to Mr McNab. Great speculation is rife as to who will be the successful candidate. Mr Richardson's supporters are doing their utmost to further his interests, and a close contest may be expected. The Eev. Mr Woollass and Mr J. S. Baxter visited this locality recently with a view of organising a Temperance Society, but nothing definite has yet been decided. Another settler has taken up his abode in our midst, and should prove to be a man of the right sort, he having experence and capital. Mr Thos. Helm is the gentleman I refer to, erstwhile of Grove Bush.
