Clutha County Council.

-•- The Council met at Clinton on Wednesday, when the following business of district interest was transacted : — Toe Clinton Town Board wrote asking the County Council to put more maintenance metal on Main street, Clinton, and make one or two crossings, also enclosing statement of cost of pipes for sewerage drains, etc., LI 3 it 2c! , and asking that the Council's grant of L 5 ba increa«ed.— Former matter to lie on table in the meantime, and county vote n the latter matter to be increased to an amount equal to two-thirds of the total cost. Constable Parker, Tapanui, wrote resigning his appointment as inspector of slaughterhouses. -Accepted, Constable Matheson to be appointed in his place. K. R. Bowler, solicitor, Gore, wrote objecting to assessment on property purchased by S. B. Patorson from Logan's trustees. Mr Hawkins, S M., had appointed August 20, at Clinton, to hear objection.— Letter received. R. Holmes, Waipahi, wrote that if the law against stray horses were rigorously enforced, it would be very oppressive to him in his present circumstances. — Received. Mr McCallum, Waipabi, forwarded letter fiomT. Mackenzie, M.H.R.,r«bridgeatWaipahi, and a deputation subsequently waited on the Council in connection with the matter. — Oo the motion of Mr Cumming, seconded by Mr Wallace, it was resolved, "That this Council give the sum of LIOO towards the bridge, provided the Government give a subsidy of L 2 on Ll— the settlers of Waipahi and Pomahaka to ' subscribe L 100." Moved by Mr Robertson, seconded by Mr Cumming, "That the Government be asked to place a sum on tha Estimates to assist in eroding a bridge over the Pomahaka at Kelso, cost about Ll2oo."— Carried. Moved by Mr Khod;3, seconded by Mr Cumming, " That tha engineer lay off small contracts in Clinton ridiDg to absorb thirds and fourths." — Carried. Moved by Mr Rhodes, seconded by Mr Wallace, " That alternative tenders, stone or wood, be called for the erection of a bridge over the Kuriwao stream."— Carried,
