PICTON ROAD BOARD.

The Board met in tho Borough Chambers, Blenheim, on Saturday morning, when there were present: Messrs G. O’Sullivan (Chairman), Sisith, Bragg, Herne, Powiok and Randall. WILLOW OBSTRUCTION’. B letter was read from Mr Hartley M'lutire, on tho matter of the willow obstructions in the Tua Marina River. He said that lie was unable to give an opinion on the subject, as ho had found out that several law points were involveo, and he therefore wished to have a conversation with sumo of the members of the Baard before lie could come to any decision.

The Secretary said that after last meeting of tho Board he had visited Mr MHutiro in reference to the matter, and that gentleman had promised to give his opinion in writing. However, it appeared that he was unable to do so at present. OIIAIKA.WA ROAD. Mr J. 17. Jackson, of Chaikawa, wrote drawing tho Board’s attention to the state of the Chaikawa Road. Several of the culverts wanted repairing, and as the water table had not been cleared for a considerable time, all tho water run down the middle of tho road. Ho did not tqink the road would cost much to bo put in good order for traffic Consideration deferred until a future mooting. A REQUEST. J. I’. Salisbury wrote asking that his name ho inserted on the roll instead of that of William Thompson, for right and interest in the Ngatuka Native Reserve.— Granted. TAK BRIDGES. The Inspector stated that he had paid a visit of inspection to the various bridges in the district. He reported on one of tho bridges near lloromiko, which was not safe for traffic. Tho Inspector : I don’t think so. I think if new piles were put in it would serve tho purpose. Mr Brag# considered the bridgo was really unfit for traffic. Peoplo in the district were now afraid to cross it.

Mr Horne thought that if something were not done art once tho structure would collapse, and in that case it would cost the Board a large sum of money to repair it. Members generally were of the opinion that tenders should be called for repairing tbe bridge.

Mr Bragg moved that specifications be prepared and tenders called for putting the bridge in a fit state for traffic, tenders to be in by tho Ist of September. Mr Horne : We bad better havo them in soon, as I am sure that the next flood will carry the bridge away, if something is not done, (laughter). Mr Bragg said ho would make arrangements in the specifications for having the work completed in a month. Tho motion was seconded by Mr Ilorne and carried.

The Inspector also reported that the bridge opposite Mr Thomas’, put in by Mr Home had almost collapsed, and was totally unfit for traffic.

Mr Horne moved that tenders be called for repairing tbe bridge. The motion was carried. Mr Bragg said that there were sovcral nasty holes along the road between Koroiniko and Mt Pleasant.

The Inspector said he was quite aware of that—in fact they wore here there and everywhere in tho roads. The Chairman thought it would be better to hold over consideration of the matter until the dry weather set in. OKNEKA'I. On the motion of Mr Randall, seconded by Mr Powiclr, it was resolved—That the Impounding Act be put in force in tho Cloudy Bay Sub-division and Tua Marina Village ; and that teders be called for tbe office of impounder, tenders to be in within a fortnight, tbe Chairman and Mr Smith to accept same. Resolved —That notice be given "to all persons having' trees or hedges hanging over tho roads, to clear same, fai'ing wh’ch, the Board woo’d do it at the owners’ expenso. Resolved—That Mr Powick be empowered to clear and occupy the road between bis property and that of Mrs Morrin.
