A Strange Affair. — On Wednesday week last one of the men engaged poisoning at Starborough, whoso naino wo have been unable to ascertain, left the home station with others for the purpose of poisoning tho country. He was suffering from dysentery, and, it is stated, the other men returned home, leaving tho man to shift for himself, It was raining hard that night, but it was subsequently ascertained that he made his way to Richmond Brook, the adjoining run, tho following morning, where, although pressed, he refused to partake of breakfast. Clever Arrest. —Constable Franklin effected a very clever arrest early yesterday morning at Spring Creek. An information was laid at Wellington, on 2Gth May last, that a man named Robert Crawley, a jockey, had forged and uttered a cheque for L 5 10s, Mr K. Cole, butcher, Wellington, being the victim. Crawley decamped, and although his whereabouts wore not definitely k n>wn, latterly it was suspected that ho had made a temporary home in Marlborough, but the imperfect description f.rwarded rendered identification difficult.
