Accidents, Offences, &c.
Per Press Association. Auckland, Aug IS. A man whoso name is not at present known, was drowned at Helcnsvillo today, by the capsizing of a boat. Considerable damage was done at the shop of I’. and S. Morrin, Queen street, this morning, through an explosion of gas, tbe lower offico being completely wrecked. A man, named Watson, nas thrown down by the shock and bad his face singed by the flame. The office of tbe Kldcrslie Railway Station was broken into last night, and tho safe abstracted. This morning, Plumley, a ganger employed on the railway, found the safe on the road about 150 yards away, showing signs of attempts made to break it open. Tho entry to the office was obtained turough the window. A man named Win. Cummings is supposed to have been lost in the Mahaki-au bush, at Mercury Bay. Cummuigs, who was formerly a brewer in Hamilton, was engaged prospecting in the bush, and has not been seen sipco last Saturday.
