The nautical enquiry touching the wreck of the Hawea was continued this morning. Robert Thompson, Collector of Customs at New Plymouth, gave evidence as to the measurement of tho anchor and chain. He said that in fine weather the bottom where the wreck is could be distinctly seen, and it was all sandy. He did nofc profess to have made a survey of the place. There might bp rocks covered with sand. Captain Robertson, one of the Nautical Assessors, observed that he knew tho spot well, and had frequently seen rocks above the sand a little further than where the Hawea lies. At this stage, on the application of Mr Gnlly, who appeared for the Customs, another adjournment was granted for the purpose of getting the evidence of a diver to )>e engaged to make a good survey and inspection of the bottom.
