Trade Jealousy.
A CURIOUS LIBEL CASE. Per Press Association. Dunedin, June 25. At the Police Court to-day Charles Strachan, clerk, was charged with unlawfully, wickedly and maliciously libeling Albert Dornwell. The plaintiff is a butcher, and defendant is clerk to another butcher. It was contended that he was the writer of a letter to some stock agents which was signed by other butchers, in which they were asked to put a stop to the reckless trading of a certain butcher (meaning Dornwell); that he be compelled to pay arrears, or file, as other butchers could not stand the cutting up and they should, in the interest of all, put a stop to this rascally business. Several stock agents were examined and also butchers, but most of the latter declined giving much evidence as they might criminate themselves. Decision was reserved until to-morrow.
