The Sydney Wharf Laborers’ Union.
DEMAND foe INCREASED WAGES. OBJECTIONS TO CHINESE CREWS Per Electric Telegraph — Copyright. United Press Association. Received June 21, 1.15 p.m. Sydney, June 23. A difficulty has arisen with the Wharf Laborers Union, who demanded 15d per hour for dumping bags of chaff. They say their action is necessitated by the course pursued by New Zealand shippers in sending over produce in extraordinary large bags. Other trades’ unions are supporting the Wharf Laborers’ Union, and a series of complications are likely to arise in shipping circles. Meantime the Labor Unions intend taking a firm stand on the Chinese question, and a difficulty is anticipated on the arrival of the mail steamer Alameda, from ’Frisco, next week, if the Chinese crew are not removed.
