In consequence of the statement in a telegram from Dunedin published this mornimr that the appointment tf Justice Ward to tho vacant judgeship wotnd not be acceptable to the bar or bench, a meeting of members of the legal profession ; u Christchurch was held at the Supreme Coart Library at 3 p.m. to-day. There were twenty-seven present, and apologies were received from several others who were unable to attend owing to the shortness of the notice of the meePng. The fol’owrag resolution was cairicd uaarimously : Tnat members of the legal profession present at this meeting having practised for some years before His Honor Justice Ward, are of the opinion that his permanent appointment as Supreme Court Justice won’d be acceptable to the profession.
